United Kingdom FlagCongratulations to Craig Lomax for Winning the British RallyCross Hot Hatch 2014 Title

Congratulations Craig Lomax: click to enlargeAfter the weekend of frustration in Wales, Craig Lomax returned to winning ways, with a dominant victory at Lydden Hill for Rd 5 MSA British Rallycross Championship in his Milltek Sport-equipped Citroen Saxo and, in turn, secured the 2014 British Rallycross Championship Hot Hatch Championship with a round to spare.

Coming in to Lydden Hill, the Baxi Avanti Xtreme RX team had a lot to prove, in the last visit here they were dominant in the heats, but the Finals got cancelled, and this time there was a strong field, including 2012 Champion Andrew Twomey who was keen to mix it with the 2014 challengers. As in March, this time Lomax was also impressive.

In what only can be described as “extreme weather conditions”, Lomax managed to win 2 heats out of 3, resulting in pole position for the A final. Heat 1 was ruined by a collision with long-time adversary Tomasz Wielgosz who forced Lomax into the gravel at the elbow on Lap 2, meaning Lomax had to push hard on the remaining lap to get a decent result, at the flag Lomax had fought back up to 4th place.

Heats two and three ran in torrential rain so Lomax missed the opportunity to claim the bonus points for fastest time of the day as this was set in Heat 1 which was ruined for Lomax by the contact with Wielgosz but clever use of the Joker lap meant Lomax was able to win both heats and safely qualify on pole for the A final.

The A final was run in similar wet conditions; Lomax made an excellent start, and was followed by Wielgosz in turn 1. The Round 5 victory left Lomax 24 points in front of Marciniak and with only 22 points available at the last round it secured Lomax the 2014 Championship.

The team has worked hard in the relatively short gap between Round 4 at Pembrey and this round at Lydden Hill, replacing the gearbox and clutch in the Citroen Saxo, “this is a fantastic result for all the lads, we’ve worked hard as a team all year, the results might show that we had a fantastic year, but that year has been fraught with accident damage and the gearbox at Pembrey was just what we didn’t need. But we all rallied together and put in the hard work and this really makes it all worthwhile, I can’t wait to have some fun at Croft - it's going to be stress-free, and we can just go and race hard and not worry, and hopefully there will be a grid to finish the year off with. Then we can put the Citroen Saxo in the garage, and begin with our exciting 2015 plans.
